Environmental commodity and decarbonization firm ClimeCo has unveiled “Inset Engine™,” an AI-enabled digital platform designed to accelerate Scope 3 value-chain emission reductions, while appointing climate standards pioneer Cynthia Cummis as Senior Vice President of Value Chain Strategies.

The new software tool integrates artificial intelligence with ClimeCo’s carbon market expertise to analyze product-level and supply chain emission datasets in minutes rather than months.

By matching identified Scope 3 emission sources to verified market-based instruments, the platform allows corporations to execute carbon insetting projects aligned with their science-based targets.

To lead its value-chain strategy division, ClimeCo appointed Cynthia Cummis, who co-founded and co-led the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) during her tenure at the World Resources Institute.

Cummis, who also served as Deputy Director of the GHG Protocol and founding director of the US EPA’s Climate Leaders Program, brings over 25 years of experience in corporate greenhouse gas accounting and standard-setting.

Aligning Corporate Insetting Tools With Evolving Scope 3 Standards

The launch of Inset Engine™ comes as major international standard-setting bodies shift toward greater recognition of value-chain decarbonization interventions.

Following the release of the AIM Platform’s initial guidance and SBTi’s Corporate Net-Zero Standard V2.0, standard setters are increasingly prioritizing insetting solutions that address supply chain emissions.

The GHG Protocol is also expected to introduce draft market instrument standards in 2027, establishing formal accounting mechanisms for reporting Scope 1 through Scope 3 interventions.

Cummis noted that the AI platform provides companies with a practical method to complement direct supplier engagement and cut Scope 3 emissions cost-effectively.

“A tool like ClimeCo’s Inset Engine™ is exactly what the market has been missing,” Cummis stated, adding that combining technical execution with digital quantification helps organizations reach sustainability targets without sacrificing analytical rigor.
