Bio-oil and biochar carbon removal provider Charm Industrial has partnered with Mangrove to fortify and scale up its digital measurement, reporting, and verification (dMRV) infrastructure.
Through this partnership, Charm is looking to evolve its custom-made dMRV system as it grows its carbon dioxide removal (CDR) operations around the globe.
Focused on processing biomass through pyrolysis to create a CO2-dense biochar and bio-oil that then gets sequestered underground, Charm is working on a promising CDR approach that has attracted buyers like Google, Microsoft, Capgemini, Stripe, and Shopify.
The company’s credible CDR pathway relies on a comprehensive, in-house dMRV platform called the Ledger that was designed specifically for its operations and serves to publish transparent data from all its work processes.
As Charm expands its global reach, it is now also working on boosting its dMRV capabilities to provide a credible foundation for all of its large-scale operations.
Charm’s operational model in the U.S. involves collaborating with a wide network of business partners—an approach that demands a switch from a single dMRV system to a shared infrastructure available to all involved stakeholders.
Additionally, the need for an enhanced dMRV system also comes from the fact that over the past year, the company managed to achieve a sevenfold improvement of one of its key measurement metrics, called Time to Verification.
The future development of this metric will require integrating and processing large quantities of data, and the partnership with Mangrove aims to address exactly these kinds of growth needs.

Charm selected Mangrove due to its ability to adapt to the company’s dMRV specificities, offering the option to track both the biochar and bio-oil carbon flows with the granularity needed for high-quality CDR.
Mangrove also offers sophisticated accounting features and a seamless flow of data from its system into Isometric’s Certify API, expediting credit issuance and eliminating the room for error.
In the partnership announcement, Charm points out that its September carbon removals are fully running on Mangrove’s infrastructure, and all of Charm’s verified credits going forward will be processed via Mangrove’s dMRV system.
