The CEEZER Carbon Coalition accelerator program is thrilled to announce the successful graduation of its second cohort in July 2024.
The Carbon Coalition program specifically targets early-stage ventures developing innovative methods for durable carbon removal (CDR) with a lifespan exceeding a century.
These “Oxford Category 5” solutions offer a critical path to achieving the ambitious goals of the Paris Agreement.
Equipping changemakers for success
Through the program, aspiring CDR developers receive invaluable support to bridge the gap between concept and large-scale implementation. Participants gain expertise in understanding buyer needs, navigating complex contracts, and establishing robust monitoring, verification, and reporting (MRV) systems.
By investing in the Carbon Coalition graduates, or in individual projects showcased on the CEEZER platform, companies can actively accelerate the growth of the CDR market and unlock the potential of these groundbreaking technologies.

Current investments in CDR fall far short of the hundreds of billions of tonnes required to keep global warming within the crucial 1.5°C or 2°C thresholds.
To achieve this, we need a massive 30-fold increase in CDR projects by 2030 and a staggering 1,300-fold increase by 2050.
The graduates of the CEEZER Carbon Coalition second cohort showcase a diverse range of promising CDR solutions:
- AirSmat: This AI-powered agricultural technology democratizes biochar production in Africa, boosting carbon sequestration and empowering local farmers.
- Heimdal: Leading the charge in direct air capture (DAC), Heimdal’s innovative limestone-based units, like the recently launched Bantam facility – the largest operational DAC plant in the U.S. – offer a powerful weapon against climate change.
- PRONOE: Harnessing the ocean’s natural CO2-removal capabilities, PRONOE develops water treatment systems that integrate with coastal industries, maximizing natural sequestration.
- RECOAL: Transforming waste biomass into “negative emission coal” known as hydrochar, RECOAL’s patented technology ensures permanent carbon storage in underground vaults.

- SeaO2: This company champions direct ocean capture (DOC), utilizing a scalable and cost-effective electrochemical process to sequester CO2 from the environment.
- Silica: Combining carbon sequestration with increased crop yields for smallholder Mexican farmers, Silica utilizes enhanced rock weathering technology.
- ZeroEx: Focusing on high-quality regional rock weathering projects, ZeroEx simultaneously addresses climate change and supports German farmers.
The first Carbon Coalition cohort graduated in February 2024, and applications for the eagerly awaited third cohort will open in December 2024.
