CDR.fyi and The State of Carbon Dioxide Removal (SoCDR) have launched a new global survey that aims to build the most comprehensive picture of the CO2 removal capacity around the world to date.

To that end, CDR.fyi and SoCDR invite carbon dioxide removal (CDR) suppliers from around the globe to take part in the survey and provide information on their current and projected CO2 removal capacity.

Led by researchers from the University of Oxford’s Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, the State of Carbon Dioxide Removal is one of the leading global assessments of CDR progress.

So far, the initiative has published two reports, known as The State of CDR 1st Edition [2023] and The State of CDR 2nd Edition [2024], that serve as guidance and reference material for policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders.

The results from the newly announced survey will contribute towards the third edition of the State of CDR report, scheduled for release in May 2026, and they will also be used in CDR.fyi’s public data and maps, which track progress and market growth across the durable CDR ecosystem.

CDR.fyi and SoCDR clarify that the responses marked as confidential will only be used in aggregate reporting, while the links and data that are publicly available will be used to enhance transparency and accountability.

The survey itself takes about 10 minutes to complete and is composed of five short sections that cover questions related to basic information (company, project name, technology), project specifics (location and start date), project status (operational, in-planning, etc.), delivered CDR (if applicable), and future removal ambitions.

CDR organizations that run multiple projects are encouraged to submit separate responses for each one of their initiatives, while survey sections or questions that don’t apply to the company’s operations can be skipped.

The survey will be open for applications until Dec 15, 2025, and interested parties that need further information or have relevant questions can reach out to team@cdr.fyi
