Durable carbon removal reporting platform CDR.fyi has launched a new survey that will serve to define the pricing of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) on the current market.
As stated by the platform, the survey aims to answer one of the most commonly asked questions by their users.
In their communication with active carbon dioxide removal (CDR) market participants, including suppliers, buyers, marketplace platforms, registries, NGOs, media, analysis organizations, and carbon removal coordinators, the topic that piqued everyone’s interest is CDR pricing.
In an attempt to provide reliable, up-to-date information on carbon removal pricing practices, CDR.fyi has launched a survey, inviting market participants to provide their input, which the platform will then process discreetly and synthesize into an aggregated report.
The survey comes in two versions, one for purchasers, and another one for suppliers. The platform stressed that all responses will be kept strictly confidential, and the final reports won’t contain information that would identify the responders.
A summary of the results will be published on the CDR.fyi blog, while the full final report will be made available to the users that provide complete survey responses and to premium users of the CDR.fyi portal.
Given a sufficient amount of responses, the survey, based on the Van Westendorp Price Sensitivity Meter, will outline acceptable price ranges and optimal price points for different durable CDR approaches.

CDR.fyi clarified that it tracks the following 15 CDR methods: Biochar Carbon Removal, Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage, Other Biomass Removal and Sequestration (Bio-oil Sequestration, Biomass Direct Storage), Direct Air Carbon Capture and Storage, Enhanced Weathering, Mineralization (Ex-situ, In-situ, Microbial, Surficial), mCDR (Direct Ocean Removal, Marine Biomass Sinking, Microalgal Capture and Storage, Ocean/River Alkalinity Enhancement).
With this survey, the CDR.fyi team hopes to be able to better understand what prices are buyers prepared to pay for each CDR method, what prices suppliers require for scaling their operations, which sectors are most interested in buying durable CDR, and which CDR approaches have the highest demand signals for 2025 and 2030.
The survey was launched on October 28, 2024, and it will be accepting responses until November 22, 2024.
