Catona Climate Secures 250,000 Nature-Based Credits From Indigo Ag - Carbon Herald

Global climate finance company Catona Climate has announced a strategic partnership with Indigo Ag to secure 250,000 carbon credits from a highly-rated U.S.-based regenerative agriculture soil carbon project.

According to Catona Climate, this marks the largest single reservation of credits from Indigo Ag’s carbon program, underscoring the project’s environmental, social, and climate impact.

The credits are generated by U.S. farmers adopting regenerative practices like cover cropping, diverse crop rotation, and reduced tillage—methods that enhance soil health, sequester carbon, and reduce emissions.

Indigo Ag’s project, covering over 7 million acres of row crops, is the largest broad-acre regenerative agriculture soil carbon initiative in the U.S., with nearly 300,000 credits issued by the Climate Action Reserve to date.

Dean Banks, CEO of Indigo Ag, emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating that Catona Climate’s commitment to high-quality nature-based credits reflects growing market confidence in soil carbon as an asset class.

The collaboration benefits farmers by creating sustainable revenue streams and supports broader climate goals, Banks added.

Catona Climate said it selected Indigo Ag’s project for its measurable climate impact and additional ecosystem benefits, such as improved soil and water quality, higher crop yields, and increased resilience to extreme weather.

The project has earned a BBB rating from carbon credit ratings agency BeZero, placing it in the top 20% of rated projects.

By supporting farmers and leveraging one of the world’s most effective carbon sinks, this initiative delivers meaningful benefits for the environment and communities while ensuring long-term financial sustainability for participants, Tate Mill, CEO of Catona Climate, said.

Mill further noted that 75% of carbon sales revenue directly supports farmers, reinforcing their commitment to sustainable practices.
