The Clean Air Task Force (CATF) is creating a comprehensive collection of fact sheets for various European countries to help assess and understand the effective implementation of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies.
As European nations increasingly recognize the critical role of CCS in their strategies for reducing industrial emissions, studies suggest that reaching climate goals will require the permanent storage of up to 600 million tonnes of CO2 across Europe by 2050.
For successful large-scale implementation, it is essential for countries to evaluate the potential for CCS deployment within key industrial sectors and to understand their unique storage capacities.
Among the countries featured in CATF‘s new fact sheets is France, one of the EU’s largest industrial CO2 emitters – France.
France has acknowledged the need for large-scale CCS deployment to meet its national climate objectives.
The country is home to several significant industrial hubs that must be connected to geological storage sites, either through exports or by tapping into domestic storage resources.

These fact sheets offer an in-depth overview of each country’s sources of emissions, ongoing CCS projects, case studies of industrial clusters, policy suggestions, and more.
Other countries featured in the CCS fact sheets by CATF include Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Poland, Portugal, and Spain.
