A collaborative effort between CarbonCure Technologies, Abdullah Abdin, and Gulf Cryo aims to significantly reduce embodied carbon emissions in construction projects within NEOM, a groundbreaking development in Saudi Arabia.
This partnership, facilitated by the Saudi Ministry of Energy, leverages carbon capture and utilization technologies to enhance the sustainability of concrete production.
Building upon a memorandum of understanding established between the Ministry of Energy and NEOM, this multi-party agreement unites CarbonCure, a global leader in carbon utilization technologies for the concrete industry, Abdullah Abdin, a prominent Saudi Arabian company specializing in ready-mix concrete, cement, and asphalt, and Gulf Cryo, a leading Carbon-as-a-Service (CaaS) provider and a major supplier of industrial gas solutions across the Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey.
This collaboration will focus on producing high-quality, low-carbon concrete that incorporates captured CO2, aligning with the principles of a Circular Carbon Economy.
The parties formalized their commitment to carbon utilization cooperation in Riyadh, driven by the Saudi Ministry of Energy’s strong support for sustainable building materials as construction activities within the Kingdom accelerate.
Through the integration of CarbonCure’s innovative technologies, Abdin will incorporate captured CO2 into its concrete products. Gulf Cryo will play a crucial role by supplying CO2 recovered from its carbon capture technologies for injection into the concrete mix.

This injected CO2 undergoes a process of mineralization, becoming permanently embedded within the concrete. Consequently, even if the concrete structure is eventually demolished, the captured CO2 will not be released back into the atmosphere.
This carbon mineralization process not only enhances the compressive strength of the concrete but also enables concrete producers to reduce their reliance on carbon-intensive cement, without compromising the performance of the final product.
CarbonCure CEO Robert Niven stated: “By helping to lay the foundation for more sustainable concrete material at NEOM and beyond, CarbonCure is proudly demonstrating the enormous potential to significantly reduce embodied carbon of future construction across Saudi Arabia, in the Middle East and worldwide.”
