During the Carbon Removal Day event held in Ottawa last month, Carbon Removal Canada announced that it is launching a new carbon dioxide removal (CDR) dashboard tool to offer centralized information on these kinds of efforts in Canada.

The CDR dashboard is envisioned to represent a one-stop database that offers an overview of the projects active in this sphere in Canada, simultaneously serving as a valuable knowledge hub for stakeholders and an info point for the public.

With a goal of strengthening the transparency of the CDR sector, the new dashboard will provide insights on project development activities, supply chain updates, and the carbon removal market trends in Canada.

The tool will be funded by the Tech for Nature initiative introduced by the Royal Bank of Canada, which aims to support the growth of innovative environmental solutions.

To make this vision a reality, Carbon Removal Canada is calling on businesses and organizations to get involved and contribute to the creation of this novel platform by providing information on their operations that they are willing to share publicly.

The stakeholders invited to submit data include CDR suppliers, in the face of carbon removal companies and project developers, along with carbon removal credits buyers and supply chain partners, such as vendors of equipment, component parts, feedstocks, and other relevant goods.

As the carbon removal sector is in need of well-defined policies and guidelines to enable its wider adoption, the CDR dashboard could be a vital tool for policymakers, offering a clear and summarized view of the market dynamics and potential focus areas in the future.

Tim Bushman, Director of Policy & Research at Carbon Removal Canada, explained, “As the industry continues to grow, we need a tool that can help centralize and showcase all the great progress that is being made.”

Canadian and international companies with active or planned CDR projects in Canada can submit their contribution for the CDR dashboard until Mar 31, 2025, when the first info-gathering window will be closed.
