Carbon Direct has changed its name to Relae as the climate advisory firm broadens its work beyond carbon dioxide removal (CDR) to encompass power, energy, environmental markets, natural capital and corporate climate strategy.
The rebranding, announced Monday, marks a new phase for the company, which was established in 2020. Carbon Direct said its original name had become strongly associated with CDR even as its technical and advisory work expanded into other areas of the energy transition.
As Relae, the company will continue advising clients on carbon removal while expanding its integrated approach to energy and climate decisions. Its capabilities now include sustainable power procurement, low-carbon fuels, environmental attribute certificates, natural capital and related markets.
Broader Energy Needs Reshape Climate Strategy
The company said growing electricity demand, grid constraints and changing fuel choices are increasingly connected to corporate climate decisions. It has reorganized its team and capabilities around those links, positioning itself to advise companies across different stages of their energy and decarbonization efforts.
Relae founder and Chief Executive Jonathan Goldberg said the new name reflects the broader scope of the firm’s work rather than a change in its underlying climate mission.
The company has advised more than 150 corporate and institutional clients across 17 sectors and six continents, according to the announcement. Its work has included technology companies, airlines, financial institutions, manufacturers and governments.

Relae said its team has evaluated more than half of the tonnes represented in announced global carbon-removal offtake agreements and has conducted more than 900 project due diligence reviews across 63 countries.
The rebranding leaves CDR as a core part of the business while placing it alongside power, energy, nature and environmental markets under a single corporate identity.
