US software provider Carbon Direct announced on Tuesday its new SaaS-based end-to-end carbon management platform, facilitating the measurement, reduction, and removal of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
The Carbon Direct Platform is a comprehensive software tool which makes it simple for companies not only to set and track progress toward their climate goals, but also provide reports to partners, regulators, and other stakeholders and manage their brand reputation.
“Organizations overwhelmingly believe that climate action is critically important, but most of them don’t know how to develop or get from a 30-year goal to a near-term action plan, let alone comply with new regulations or manage reputation risk,” Jon Goldberg, CEO and Founder of Carbon Direct, said in a statement.
In a 2022 study by the European Commission (EC), only 24% of companies surveyed had a strategy to reduce their carbon footprint, with just 19% having plans to implement such a strategy in the future.
At the same time, there is an increasing focus on climate action among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), with cutting emissions being a “high priority” for 80% of enterprises surveyed by SME Climate Hub. However, acting on those goals requires financial resources and knowledge which are often not available to those companies.
The Carbon Direct Platform has three core modules: Measure (for building an auditable carbon emissions footprint), Reduce (for identifying and prioritizing areas for potential reductions) and Remove (for providing access to Carbon Direct Portfolio 1, a curated portfolio including high-quality carbon removal credits).
Carbon Direct’s network of customers include global leaders like Microsoft, American Express, and Alaska Airlines, as well as the World Economic Forum, which selected the US firm as an Implementation Partner for the First Movers Coalition.
