Malaysian energy giant Petronas has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with carbon capture technology developer Carbon Clean. The two companies will be working together on identifying potential synergies and ways of integrating the modular technology with existing and future Petronas operations.
Carbon capture in Malaysia has been developing at a breakneck pace recently with Petronas announcing a slew of agreements with partners like Abu Dhabi’s ADNOC, JERA from Japan and DNV.
Carbon Clean CEO Aniruddha Sharma commented on the agreement by saying: “PETRONAS has a pioneering approach to decarbonisation, viewing carbon capture as a lever to transform its business. It is turning the low-carbon energy transition into an opportunity to drive green growth. Carbon Clean is proud to support PETRONAS in achieving its net zero targets by providing a cost-effective approach to carbon capture. CycloneCC’s modular design enables companies to stagger their investment, adding units in line with their decarbonisation goals. We are making carbon capture logistically viable and easy to scale.”

Accoding to Carbon Clean CycloneCC has 50% lower installation costs compared to regular carbon capture systems because of its modular design, small physical footprint and substantially smaller equipment.
The company is also making strides with its CarbonX technology which will be deployed at Ørsted’s FlagshipONE e-methanol plant, Europe’s largest project in that industry.
