Carbon Clean and offshore platform specialist MODEC have entered into a strategic partnership to advance the deployment of CycloneCC — Carbon Clean’s compact carbon capture system — on floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) units. The collaboration aims to accelerate the technology’s transition from pilot to commercial scale in the offshore sector.
The agreement sets the stage for a pilot installation of CycloneCC on an FPSO by 2026. Following successful trials, the technology will be scaled to capture up to 100,000 metric tons of CO2 annually, contributing to partial decarbonisation.
A full-scale rollout is expected to push that figure to around 300,000 tons per year, supporting MODEC’s efforts to achieve full carbon capture capability on future FPSOs.
The long-term goal is to integrate CycloneCC into MODEC’s FPSO designs at a scale capable of capturing up to 1,000 tons of CO2 per day — providing the maritime sector with a viable and efficient path toward large-scale emissions reduction.
This new partnership builds on recent momentum for Carbon Clean. In February 2025, the company announced a Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) contract with SAMSUNG E&A for the first CycloneCC unit to be installed on a MODEC FPSO.
That initiative marked a pivotal moment in the broader effort to decarbonise offshore oil and gas operations.
CycloneCC is particularly well-suited to marine environments, offering a much smaller footprint than conventional systems — up to 50% more compact overall, with critical components reduced in size by as much as tenfold.

The latest C1 model delivers a 70% height reduction compared to traditional column-based systems, while its Rotating Packed Bed (RPB) technology provides enhanced stability and performance in dynamic offshore conditions.
“This agreement is a major step toward commercialising onboard carbon capture for FPSOs and sets a precedent for the broader maritime industry,” Aniruddha Sharma, Chair and CEO of Carbon Clean, said.
“As the International Maritime Organization’s emissions regulations develop in support of maritime decarbonisation, CycloneCC offers a scalable and viable solution to help vessels meet these targets and achieve full emissions reductions before the end of this decade.”
