Boeing, SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd and carbon removal innovator Equatic Inc have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop a carbon removal demonstration facility in Sarawak.
The collaboration supports the state government’s clean energy ambitions while aiming to deliver environmental and economic benefits.
The demonstration facility will use Equatic’s seawater-based technology to remove 365 tons of CO2 annually, while also producing 10 tons of green hydrogen and 80 tons of calcium carbonate per year. Revenue from these output streams is expected to help offset operational costs.
Pioneering Carbon Removal With Hydrogen Co-Production
SEDCE chief executive officer Robert Hardin described the partnership as an important step in advancing both carbon removal and hydrogen technologies, stressing the need for the right ecosystem to scale beyond demonstration.
Boeing will provide project development support, drawing on its long-standing partnership with Malaysia, and aligning with its broader decarbonisation strategy that spans fleet renewal, renewable fuels, advanced technologies and efficiency improvements.

Equatic founder and chief technology officer Gaurav Sant emphasised that carbon removal and green hydrogen are core to cost-effective decarbonisation, adding that Sarawak’s hydroelectric base and green hydrogen strategy make it an ideal location to accelerate commercial scaling.
The facility is expected to begin operations in 2026, positioning Sarawak as a regional hub for emerging carbon removal and hydrogen innovation.
