Aviation giant Boeing has signed a multi-year carbon dioxide removal (CDR) purchase agreement with Texas-based company Grassroots Carbon.
Under the agreement, Boeing is investing in a minimum of 40,000 metric tons of verified soil carbon removal credits from Crassroot Carbon’s regenerative ranching and improved grassland management operations across the United States.
This agreement will support ranchers that are boosting soil organic carbon through regenerative grazing practices, which also helps improve the water retention in soils and strengthens the ecosystem’s resilience.
It also serves to strategically connect the aviation sector with a CDR solution that has the potential to be deployed immediately across millions of acres of land.
Boeing will apply the CDR credits secured in this agreement to its residual Scope 3 – category 6 emissions associated with business travel.
As shared in the announcement, soil carbon removal through regenerative grassland management represents one of the largest and most immediately deployable CDR opportunities in the United States.
Being home to more than 655 million acres of grasslands, the U.S. could leverage regenerative grazing to tap into high-integrity CDR that can be delivered at a large, climate-relevant scale.
The further development of this carbon removal domain would also help ranchers tackle issues posed from increasing climate, economic, and operational pressures.

To date, Grassroots Carbon has removed 1.9 million tons of CO2, partnering with U.S. ranchers active across 22 states and more than 2.2 million acres of grasslands. Through these operations, the company has demonstrated the scalability and credibility of soil carbon removals, applying a rancher-first and science-backed approach.
Grassroots Carbon’s soil carbon program uses direct one-meter-deep, field-level soil measurements and laboratory analysis to measure and track progress.
Using established carbon standards, an independent third party verifies and certifies the measurements, validating the atmospheric CO2 volume stored in healthy U.S. soils.
