Bloomberg has incorporated independent carbon credit quality ratings from Calyx Global into its flagship terminal, a move aimed at strengthening transparency in the voluntary carbon market and helping investors better assess the integrity of carbon offsets.

The new integration, available to Bloomberg Terminal subscribers, makes Calyx’s proprietary ratings—which evaluate the environmental quality and risk profile of voluntary carbon credits—directly accessible alongside financial and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data already on the platform.

By embedding ratings into a widely used information ecosystem, the update seeks to reduce information asymmetries that have long hindered trust in carbon credit markets.

Carbon credits represent reductions or removals of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, often generated by forest conservation, clean cookstove, or renewable energy projects, and are used by corporations seeking to meet climate goals.

But diverging methodologies and uneven data quality have prompted calls for independent evaluation standards to help buyers distinguish high-integrity credits from weaker options.

Bloomberg’s integration responds to that demand by positioning Calyx’s ratings alongside real-time pricing, company disclosures and risk analytics.

Under the collaboration, Calyx Global will deliver ratings, including credit scores and risk indicators, directly into Bloomberg’s terminal interface, enabling analysts and asset managers to screen and compare carbon credits with greater confidence.

The addition also aligns with broader investor appetite for tools that bring measurable standards to voluntary climate markets.

Bloomberg’s decision reflects a growing expectation that voluntary carbon markets adopt more rigorous, data-driven evaluation frameworks.

According to Emilie Gallagher, global head of commodities, FX and macro product, the collaboration with Calyx Global reflects the growing complexity of carbon markets and is intended to give investors and corporate users clearer insight into carbon credit quality and performance.

With the number of corporates pledging net-zero targets increasing, access to independent credit assessments could help channel capital toward higher-integrity climate solutions and improve market functioning.
