Baker Hughes and Woodside Energy, two influential players in the energy sector, are taking significant steps toward decarbonizing the power industry.
Their latest partnership focuses on NET Power’s cutting-edge carbon capture technology, which seeks to drastically reduce emissions from natural gas plants while maintaining efficiency and affordability in energy production.
This collaboration is not just a trial—it represents a pivotal move toward transforming the energy sector to meet the growing demand for cleaner energy solutions.
The energy landscape is undergoing a critical transformation. Governments, investors, and environmental organizations are increasingly pushing for substantial cuts in emissions.
At the same time, industries continue to rely heavily on natural gas for energy production. NET Power enters the scene with a revolutionary solution that promises to reconcile these opposing forces.
NET Power’s system operates by combusting natural gas in an environment enriched with pure oxygen, rather than air. This unique approach results in near-zero emissions, capturing 97% of the CO2 before it escapes into the atmosphere.
Baker Hughes holds the exclusive rights to NET Power’s small-scale platform, giving it a critical role in adapting the technology for diverse industrial uses. However, scaling this innovation goes beyond technical challenges—it requires cross-sector collaboration.

Should the initial trials prove successful, Baker Hughes and Woodside Energy could pave the way for large-scale industrial decarbonization.
“We are excited to continue our collaboration with Baker Hughes and leverage their leading-edge technology and our combined engineering and CCUS capabilities to explore and develop lower-carbon emissions alternative power solutions using NET Power’s platform,” said Julie Fallon, Executive Vice President of Technical and Energy Development at Woodside Energy.
Danny Rice, CEO of NET Power, also commented: “This work has the potential to bring our technology platform to a broader array of end markets and applications, complementing our utility-scale program and strategy.”
