Belgium-based ARK Capture Solutions has raised nearly $2.4 million (€2.2 million) in pre-seed funding to advance its technology for capturing low-concentration CO2 from flue gases.
The funding round was led by Aperam Ventures and Seeder Fund, with participation from Climate Club, BeAngels, Lune Ventures, InvestBW, Noshaq, and Wallonie Entreprendre.
Founded in mid-2024, the company has attracted the attention of investors with its innovative solution that addresses carbon emissions from industrial facilities, able to capture CO2 with low concentrations of 4% to 15%.
By targeting low-concentration carbon emissions, responsible for about 50% of global Tier 2 emissions, ARK Capture Solutions has positioned itself as a trailblazer in the domain of decarbonization services.
According to the company, by successfully tackling low-concentration emissions, its solution emerges as a market frontrunner amidst many other competing technologies that work with higher concentrations of CO2.
Founders and former TotalEnergies employees Samuel Thiry and Aurélien Vantomme share, “We are proud to offer a solution able to unlock an unaddressed market segment, representing 50% of the world’s emissions.”
Designed for downstream integration in emissions point sources and powered by renewable energy, this technology aims to significantly reduce the costs associated with carbon capture, producing high-purity CO2 suitable for utilization or storage.
The all-electric, autonomous design of the system is health, safety, and environment (HSE) friendly, offering a modular technology that can be integrated within existing transport and storage infrastructures.
With the newly acquired funding, the company intends to refine its novel technology, dedicating means and efforts to accelerating product development.
Having rapidly expanded its team in its short time of existence, ARK Capture Solutions will build on this momentum, looking to further grow the company’s workforce.
With one operational prototype, capturing 2 tons of CO2 annually, the company will work on scaling up capacity to a 40-ton-per-year pilot, along with a plan to develop an industrial demonstration unit, projected to be able to capture 400-1,000 tons of carbon annually in collaboration with three leading industrial partners.
