Arca, a mineral carbonation company headquartered in Vancouver, BC, has signed a number of new partnerships that aim to accelerate the deployment of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) across mining sites in Western Australia.
The company is embarking on these collaborations having secured $8 million in funding, provided by investors that include Side Stage Ventures, Saniel Ventures, and two leading Australian VC firms.
Looking to scale the impact of its operations, Arca intends to use the financial stimulus to catalyze the decarbonization of the mining sector.
In line with its climate-forward vision, Arca has partnered with the Climate Recovery Institute, a not-for-profit organization pushing for the development of a durable carbon removal industry in Australia by collaborating with industry representatives, local communities, and the government.
The Australian continent holds vast resources of minerals, making it a favorable location for deploying carbon mineralization technology, a tool recognized as a powerful asset for tackling the global climate emergency.
On its end, Arca has developed a technology that uses mine waste for large-scale CDR through a process that speeds up a naturally occurring reaction in which atmospheric CO2 is transformed into stable carbonate minerals.
The company has entered a partnership with Western Australia-based gold producer Wyloo to explore the possibility of combining Arca’s technology and the existing tailings streams at the gold mining sites for the capture and storage of atmospheric carbon dioxide.

This week, the company also announced that it had become an Associate Partner at the Development Partner Institute (DPI), where it will work to ensure Traditional Owners and stakeholders can participate in the early-stage planning of future CDR projects.
These developments align with the strengthening of cooperation between Australia and Canada through the Team Canada Trade Mission (TCTM), led by The Honourable Mary Ng, Canada’s Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade, and Economic Development.
Minister Ng. commented, “Australia is a key Indo-Pacific ally and long-standing partner of Canada’s, and this TCTM will help Canadian and Australian companies explore new markets, establish new connections, and support the growth of both countries’ economies.”
