Anew Climate has signed a ten-year partnership with EKEN Financing Value Added Forestry (EKEN) that will bring improved forestry management (IFM) credits closer to corporate buyers.

The partnership establishes Anew as an exclusive commercialization partner for credits generated through the IFM projects by EKEN.

As part of this role, Anew will cover corporate buyer operations in Europe and internationally, working on purchaser engagements, structuring, and portfolio integration.

This collaboration will enable sustainability-oriented corporates from around the world to access Swedish improved forest management (IFM) credits through Anew’s platform.

With this agreement, Anew is extending its European forest carbon portfolio, which it runs alongside millions of acres of managed forestland across North America.

EKEN’s approach to improved forest management

Through its IFM project, EKEN enables landowners to access extra revenue to traditional timber income. The new revenue comes from the additional CO2 stored in forests when harvest is deferred.

The company is developing the project under Verra’s VM0045 methodology for improved forest management using dynamic matched baselines from national forest inventories. VM0045 v1.2 is one of the first two IFM methodologies approved for the CCP label by the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market.

EKEN founder and CEO Erik Ottosson commented, “Verified carbon credits give Swedish forest owners something they have never had: a way to be paid for the carbon a forest holds, not only for the timber it yields. Together with Anew Climate, we are opening an international market for that.”

“Our long-term aim is a Swedish forest economy where a greater share of what the forest produces ends up in long-lived, value-added products,” he added.

As shared by EKEN, between the years 2027 and 2031, the project is expected to generate between 30,000 and 65,000 IFM credits from the forestland currently enrolled in this initiative, subject to registration and verification.

The company projects that the first credit issuances will be made in Q4 of 2027, with carbon removal volumes expected to grow as additional landowners enroll.
