Alt Carbon announced that it has generated 9,566 tonnes of verified carbon dioxide removal (CDR) credits, becoming the world’s largest Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) company by volume of issued credits.

This issuance entails credit deliveries to a number of prominent CDR buyers, including Frontier coalition members Stripe, Google, Shopify, and Match Group through Watershed. Credits were also delivered to other buyers, among which are CEEZER, South Pole and Mitsubishi-led coalition NextGen, as well as a number of undisclosed purchasers.

According to the company, the large number and variety of business profiles of its buyers confirms a shift in the perception of ERW as a carbon removal method, strengthening its reputation of a scientifically rigorous and scalable pathway for high-integrity CDR.

As shared in the announcement, Alt Carbon’s cumulative ERW issuance now officially exceeds all other verified ERW issuances globally.

Its ability to issue large volumes of credits was enabled through a scientific infrastructure built in the last two years.

To test ERW samples, Alt Carbon utilizes its laboratories, one at Shonku Labs at the Indian Institute of Science campus in Bangalore and a second one at the Darjeeling Climate Action Lab in the foothills of the Himalayas, tapping into an annual sample processing capacity of 100,000 units.

Alt Carbon shares that so far, its team has analysed more than 20,000 samples while operating one of the highest-throughput ERW sample analysis facilities in India.

The newly issued credits cover multiple crop types, soil geographies, and growing seasons. They have been independently verified by an accredited Validation and Verification Body (VVB) and have been issued on the Isometric Registry.

Through these ERW operations, Alt Carbon has removed CO2 from heritage tea estates, rice paddies and diverse agricultural networks across the Darjeeling and Terai regions in India.

A portion of Alt Carbon’s verified Carbon Credit inventory has been reserved for the company’s Alt Explorers program, which is focused on executive education and immersion designed for senior decision-makers across sustainability, marketing, and finance.

The program runs as an invite-only opportunity, and companies can express their interest in joining here.
