Aker BP Undergoes Review Of Its CO2 Storage Licenses - Carbon Herald

AGR, a subsidiary of ABL Group, has recently completed a technical peer review of two carbon storage licenses in the Norwegian North Sea for Aker BP. These licenses, EXL005 Poseidon and EXL011, were awarded to Aker BP in 2024.

The primary objective of the review was to verify that the evaluation of these licenses adhered to the CO2 Storage Resources Management System (SRMS), a framework established in 2017 to facilitate the commercialization of carbon storage.

AGR‘s reservoir management and subsurface team, which includes experts from Ross Offshore, a company acquired by AGR earlier this year, carried out this assessment.

Aker BP, in partnership with OMV (Norge), was granted the Poseidon license in March 2023 by the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy.

This license mandates a work program encompassing 3D seismic acquisition and subsequent studies, culminating in a crucial drill-or-drop decision by May 2025.

Aker BP will assume the role of operator with a 60% stake, while OMV Norge will retain the remaining 40%.

In addition to this recent engagement with Aker BP, AGR has been actively involved in other significant projects.

In May, the company was selected by Wintershall Dea and Altera Infrastructure to conduct an independent third-party storage evaluation of their CO2 storage license offshore Norway.

Furthermore, AGR has been chosen by Equinor, Norway’s state-owned energy giant, to provide subsurface and field development support for various projects, including offshore installations and onshore plants.
