Industrial technology company AIRCO has opened a new manufacturing and integration facility in Pennsylvania to scale production of its modular synthetic fuel systems designed for remote and operationally constrained environments.

Located in New Britain, the site will serve as AIRCO’s primary manufacturing hub, bringing together research and development, engineering, operations and production activities under one campus.

The facility will manufacture AIRCO’s MAD (Mobile, Adaptable, and Dynamic) Fuel System™, a containerized platform designed to produce synthetic fuel on demand using captured CO2.

The systems are intended for deployment in locations where conventional fuel transport and resupply logistics are difficult or costly. According to AIRCO, the technology can produce fuel for aircraft and ground vehicles directly at the point of use, reducing reliance on centralized fuel infrastructure.

The project builds on recent funding support from the US Air Force, which is backing development of the MAD Fuel System as part of broader efforts to strengthen energy resilience and reduce logistical risks associated with fuel transportation.

“For over a century, fuel has been produced in centralized refineries and shipped around the world. We’re changing that,” said Gregory Constantine, Co-Founder and CEO of AIRCO.

“This facility enables us to manufacture autonomous systems that produce fuel anywhere, on demand. It’s a fundamental shift from fuel as a commodity to fuel as infrastructure,” he added.

Expanding Defense and Aviation Partnerships

AIRCO said the new facility supports growing demand for its modular fuel production technology across both defense and commercial aviation sectors.

The company recently received a Strategic Funding Increase (STRATFI) award through AFWERX, a US Department of the Air Force innovation program, to accelerate deployment of the MAD Fuel System.

AIRCO is also continuing collaborations with aviation companies including JetBlue and Virgin Atlantic as interest grows in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and alternative fuel production technologies.

By integrating its AIRMADE™ fuel production technology into modular systems, AIRCO aims to create flexible energy hubs capable of operating across a range of environments while maintaining consistent fuel output.
