Danish agricultural carbon company Agreena has received a BBB ex-post rating from independent carbon ratings firm BeZero Carbon for its flagship soil carbon program, placing it among the top five projects globally in the soil-related agricultural practices category and confirming a pre-issuance rating assigned in February 2025.
The rating applies to the AgreenaCarbon Project, registered under Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) using methodology VM0042, following its first issuance of 2.3 million Verified Carbon Units (VCUs) across 1.6 million hectares of European regenerative farmland in September 2025.
The ex-post rating, which is based on verified monitoring data and actual project performance rather than pre-issuance forecasts, was assigned on July 20.
BeZero Carbon uses an eight-point scale, ranging from AAA to D, to assess the likelihood that a carbon project’s credits achieve a genuine tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) avoided or removed.
The confirmation that Agreena’s project has delivered in line with its pre-issuance projections is seen as a “meaningful signal” in a market where many rated projects have yet to issue any credits at all.

Rising Bar For Corporate Buyers
The timing is significant, Agreena said. According to Patch’s Hidden State of the Voluntary Carbon Market report, 79% of companies now seek projects with a BBB BeZero Carbon Rating or higher, making independent post-issuance validation an increasingly decisive factor in purchasing decisions.
“This independent rating highlights the strength of the AgreenaCarbon Project’s delivery,” said Frederik Aagaard, the company’s chief commercial officer. “By providing external, evidence-based validation of our issued credits, it gives stakeholders confidence in the quality of the climate impact we’re already delivering.”
Beyond carbon, the project delivers co-benefits including improved soil health, enhanced biodiversity, and additional income for participating farmers. The live rating is available here.
