Idemitsu Americas Holdings Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Japanese petroleum company Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd., has made an investment in Carbonfuture, supporting the advancement of its digital monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) infrastructure for carbon dioxide removal.
The investment, made via venture capital firm Carbon Removal Partners, demonstrates Idemitsu Americas Holdings Corporation’s ongoing commitment to support the development of credible and scalable CO2 neutrality pathways.
In a statement, the investor company shared that the decision to support Carbonfuture was influenced by its leadership in this space.
“Carbonfuture’s digital trust infrastructure supports a wide range of durable CDR pathways, including biochar, DACCS, and BECCS, and connects high-quality carbon removal supply with verifiable demand across global markets,” the statement said.
MRV systems are a vital tool in the carbon removal space that combine a set of protocols and processes for tracking, reporting, and validating the actual volume of atmospheric CO2 emissions removed and put away for durable storage.
Carbonfuture has developed a comprehensive digital MRV offering that provides a more advanced experience than conventional MRV systems.
Its novel tool comes with automated data capture with near-real-time entries, generating standardized reports and audit-ready logs, with lower error rates than traditional, manual-input MRV approaches.
As the carbon removal market evolves and more buyers start including CO2 removal in their sustainability strategies in the future, MRV tools will play a vital role in ensuring a sector growth underpinned by integrity, transparency, and measurable results.

Additionally, through its close work with Carbonfuture, Idemitsu Americas Holdings Corporation also aims to gain a more profound understanding of the field of durable carbon removal as a potential future business domain.
