8 Rivers Capital, a leader in decarbonization technologies, has signed a preliminary agreement with Wood, a global consulting and engineering firm, to carry out the front-end engineering and design (Pre-FEED) work for a carbon capture project in Wyoming.
This initiative, which is a collaboration between 8 Rivers and PacifiCorp, will include Pre-FEED activities expected to be completed later in 2025.
In 2024, 8 Rivers and PacifiCorp entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore the possibility of a carbon capture project at one of PacifiCorp’s existing brownfield power plants in Wyoming.
The project will utilize 8 Rivers’ innovative Allam-Fetvedt Cycle (AFC) power cycle technology, along with direct-fired supercritical CO2 turbines that are being co-developed with Siemens Energy.
Siemens will continue to support the project during the Pre-FEED phase and the subsequent front-end engineering design (FEED) process. The project will capture CO2, which will be used to fuel the turbines and generate electricity.
The project aims to enhance the local economy by upgrading existing power infrastructure in Wyoming, providing affordable energy, and creating significant economic and workforce opportunities for the state’s residents.

What sets this initiative apart from other carbon capture projects is the deployment of the AFC technology, which can generate reliable, affordable, and dispatchable electricity around the clock.
Wood was selected for the Pre-FEED phase due to its extensive experience in gasification design across the United States, as well as its ability to leverage its global network of resources to support the project.
Damian Beauchamp, 8 Rivers President and Chief Development Officer, stated: “By deploying cutting-edge innovations, we can enhance efficiency, create high-quality jobs, and drive long-term growth in the state’s energy sector.”
“Wyoming has a proud history of energy leadership, and we are committed to advancing the technologies that will keep it competitive and thriving for decades to come.”
