44moles Decides To Focus Solely On Providing Forest Data Through LiDAR - Carbon Herald

German climate tech company 44moles has made a shift in its business focus, choosing to concentrate solely on providing forest data through advanced LiDAR technology, as announced by founder and CEO Sebastian Seidel on LinkedIn.

The company has spun off its project development activities, selling 49% of its shares to an external investor and creating Climate Forest, led by Dr. Jochen Gassner, which will focus on developing carbon and biodiversity projects globally.

Seidel, who has worked in the forestry sector since 2004, founded 44moles in 2022 after witnessing first-hand the environmental impact of clearcutting and deciding to prioritize forest conservation over deforestation.

The goal of the new company was to improve the accuracy of forest biomass measurement using cutting-edge technology.

Partnering with experts from The University of Göttingen, 44moles developed a precise and efficient system using mobile terrestrial LiDAR technology to collect forest data.

However, as the startup grew, Seidel recognized the need to streamline the company’s operations and focus on what it did best: forest data analytics.

Following the spin-off, 44moles will specialize in revolutionizing forest data collection through LiDAR and an automated software processing system.

“I’ll continue to lead the company as we grow and hone our product, actively seeking partnerships with innovators who understand the game-changing potential of LiDAR technology,” Seidel said.

By concentrating on LiDAR-powered data solutions, 44moles aims to contribute to a more sustainable future while forming partnerships with innovators in the field.
